Irregular silviculture and stand structural effects on the plant community in an ancient semi-natural woodland

چکیده

Plants associated with traditional forms of coppice management are affected by changes in, or cessation of, stand which produce differences in structure, usually the direction high forest. The habitat ground flora richness, and composition an ancient woodland southern England were compared across three distinct treatments: Coppice (the cyclical cutting underwood on rotations), Limited Intervention (representing effective management), Irregular High Forest silviculture (a form continuous cover forestry using single small group selective tree harvesting). showed a more complex woody structure whereas was strongly correlated closed-canopy, single-storied structures no developing understorey. Increased bramble Rubus fruticosus silviculture, bare mostly limited intervention closed-canopy stands. Distinct plant-habitat associations identified types greatest between two active interventions. Overall vascular plant species lowest Using indicator groups, we found similar community pattern silviculture. More accommodated within comparatively heterogenous silvicultural interventions management. study indicates that introduction as practiced here can conserve most plants coppicing, practice has declined significantly UK since late 19th Century.

Stand Development and Silviculture in Bottomland Hardwoods’

INTRODUCTION Silviculture for the production of high-quality timber in southern bottomland hardwood forests involves the application of environmentally sound practices in order to enhance the growth and quality of both individual trees and stands. To accomplish this purpose, silvicultural practices are typically used to regulate stand density, species composition, and stem quality to promote th...

Effects of a Prescribed Fire on Oak Woodland Stand Structure

Fire damage and tree characteristics of mixed deciduous oak woodlands were recorded after a prescription burn in the summer of 1999 on Mt. Hamilton Range, Santa Clara County, California. Trees were tagged and monitored to determine the effects of fire intensity on damage, recovery and survivorship. Fire-caused mortality was low; 2-year post-burn survey indicates that only three oaks have died f...

Effect of Stand Structural Characteristics on Natural Regeneration of Acer Campestre L. in Arasbaran Forest

Natural regeneration is one of the key aspects of forest sustainability and a tool to decide on restoration programs in forest areas. The purpose of this study was to investigate the quantity of natural regeneration of Acer campestre L. as one of the most important tree species in Arasbaran forests and its relationship with elevation changes and structural characteristics in the natural stands....
